The constellation of Libra represents the Scale that was created during the reign of Julius Caesar by the Romans. It was originally a part of the Scorpius constellation, until renamed by the Romans.

Here are some of the names of stars in the Libra constellation:

The Arabic name for the northern claw is Zeuben Eschamali, or Zubeneschamali. This star is also known as beta Librae, and is blue-white in color although it appears green to the naked eye.

The Arabic name for the southern claw is Zeuben Elgenubi, or Zubenelgenubi. This is the alpha designated star even though it isn’t the brightest in the Libra constellation.

The scorpion’s claw is named Zeuben Elakrab, and is also known as Zubenelakrab or Gamma Librae. This star, along with sigma Librae make up the ‘weighing pans’ of the scales in Libra.

Zubenelakribi or Delta Librae has a magnitude of +4.8m, and has a dimmer star in such close proximity that they complete an orbit in less than 3 days. The dimmer star passes in front of Zubenelakribi in each orbit.

Beta Librae, a third magnitude star, represents the top of the balance of the scale. The balance beam is represented by gamma Librae and alpha Librae. Alpha Librae is also a third magnitude star.

This isn’t a total listing of the stars in Libra, but they are the most well known. Other stars include Theta Librae, which is an orange giant with a brightness of 4.1, and Tau Librae, a blue-white giant with a magnitude of +3.66.

Now you know some of the names of stars in the Libra constellation! This will make your star gazing even more fun and enjoyable.
